I really don’t like the fact that beauty is held at such a high level in this world. For women, being beautiful seems to be more valuable than intelligence or independence. In Asia, this is even worse. In these societies men look for a woman that is beautiful, cute or has doll-like looks. That ultra-feminine quality.. is held over substance. Why is looking so youthful and adolescent treasured so much? Wisdom and experience are much more beneficial in life..but being pretty gets you so much. A cute, innocent look is unthreatening, submissive, eye-candy. Beauty is a product for the beholders consumption.
As a woman myself, I know I’m above averagely beautiful but in comparison to girls like this I feel like I’m lacking. This is the result of low self-esteem and confidence issues but it’s also a result of the superficial ideals of society. No matter how I look if a guy sees her he would choose her over me. Am I not good enough? When is beautiful too beautiful? Beauty creates an invisible, unobtainable bar that is raised constantly as expectations are raised.
Substance is aways better than beauty. While intelligence, personality, and inner-strength are the layers of the cake beauty is only the icing.
From what history and literature has shown: beauty is dangerous.
